Retreat Day: Faith Formation Term 3

Dialogue, Distinctiveness, Diversity: Educating for the Future (one day retreat):
Presenter: Dr Maeve Heaney VDMF is the Director of the Xavier Centre for Theological Formation at Australian Catholic University, and a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Theology and Philosophy.
Location: Bailey Crystalbrook
Overview of Session:
The day will explore a dimension of Christian faith that is essential to every Catholic community: hope, and how it relates to our educational mission. Hope is not blind optimism but allows us to hold together two perspectives on life that at times can seem to challenge each other: the woundedness and needs of our world and our trust that things can change, and that we can make a difference for a better future. How? By understanding and developing who we are and who we are called to be. Catholic Education is a space which draws people from a variety of different social, cultural and religious perspectives. It is a plural and inclusive community. However, this will only work well is we choose not to avoid our differences but to reflect upon and consciously develop what it distinctive and unique about our Catholic mission and identity. Dialogue, diversity, distinctiveness, and respect are key traits of Catholic education, woven together in friendship with each other and the One who calls us to collaborate in this space. Through words and music, this keynote will seek to offer elements for reflection on what this means for everyone working in the space of Catholic Education.

Registration: Participants need to register through iLearn by 29 August 2024.
