Connection to Engagement: From Relationships to Responsive Practice

This final full-day workshop for first-year Early Career Teachers builds on the learning from Term 3, extending understandings of language development and sensory-friendly classrooms into effective classroom management for student engagement. Grounded in evidence-based practice and aligned with a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS-E), participants will explore how to create environments that foster positive behaviour, strong relationships, and a sense of belonging for all learners. Through a focus on Modules 1 and 2—building positive relationships and setting up supportive classroom environments—ECTs will deepen their understanding of how engagement is strengthened across emotional, behavioural, and cognitive domains. This practical and collaborative day will equip teachers with strategies to promote curiosity, participation, and sustained engagement, supporting a strong and confident transition into their second year of teaching.

There will also be an opportunity to share the Draft 2027 Induction Program for 1st and 2nd year ECTs.  This coordinated two-year induction program includes:

  • the collaborative role of all our system teams
  • ECT Coordinators, and Mentors expertise and currency
  • an evidence-informed, consistent and sustainable approach and foundation to early career teacher development
