‘Emotionally Intelligent Leadership & Management :
Practices for leading and managing cultures of wellbeing, learning and innovation
Professional Conversations: The Why, the How and the What
Facilitator: Catherine Jackson, Leopard Tree Consulting
This full day professional learning event will equip participants to:
• Build confidence and skills in tackling difficult conversations
• Identify traps and unhealthy patterns of interaction
• Build self-awareness in managing emotions and balancing courage and care
• Understand how to build accountability in others
Session 1: Behaviour conversations – This session introduces leaders to the importance of professional conversations and provides some tools for building confidence and skills in initiating such conversations, including the notoriously tricky “difficult conversations”. The session will focus on clarifying motives for professional conversations, managing emotions (your’s and their’s), and avoiding unhelpful triggers. A simple planning process is provided to guide you through preparing for the conversations you need to have.
Session 2: Accountability conversations – As leaders, coaches, mentors and helpers, we are called to engage in conversations that clarify expectations, provide feedback and support positive performance. Using a balance of care and challenge, this session explores high impact leadership conversations that support staff engagement, growth and performance. We will explore the challenge of holding people accountable for expected behaviours and offer a simple sequence of conversations for building accountability.
Session 3: Growth conversations – With a few lessons from neuroscience under our belt, the afternoon session will explore conversational skills that support development and growth. The session will explore how leaders can be more coach-like in their interactions and avoid setting themselves up as the chief advice-giver.
We’ll finish the day with examining the habit loop and substituting positive habits for those that are less than helpful.
The suite of masterclasses is available to all employees, including whether the content is aligned to your PGIAP. Please ensure you have approval from your Line Manager before enrolling. Course fee is free however no TRS is available.
